My "past" with the church
This morning as I was praying and reminiscing on my "past"with Churches, God gently took me to this scripture.
I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more than he hurt me. Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough. Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement. So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him....... I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit, so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes. 2 Corinthians 2
What came to mind first was "I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more than he hurt me."
My trouble that I caused was my rants against the organized church which was a reaction to me being a new Christian 18 years ago and being thrown out by my local church. From there that started my coming and going, joining and leaving of church.
What I did not realize was that the Church is made up of humans who WILL let you down, and they WILL hurt your feelings. I had a false security. My security was in people not Jesus.
So why the public apology? Because of the second part of this verse .."however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement. So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement. So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him."
So as I have grown in faith, I have also been gently reminded by God that I needed to do this last part because if I have done anything to make someone run away from the body of believers, I am sorry and as this last part says "otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement".
There are churches out there and they will offend you and they will hurt your feelings, but what is the motive?
Did they offend you because you are living in sin and they showed you Gods truth.
Did they hurt your feelings because they showed you scripture and your actions and words are not matching up to Gods word?
For me it was neither, it was humans reacting in a human way to a situation and because I was a new Christian I associated that with all churches and Jesus.
So I will leave you with this: don't be discouraged by the church. It is made up of humans that will let you down, they will hurt your feelings. If you find a church to be a part of don't leave just because your feelings were hurt or you didn't like something. Get involved and find out why or be apart of the solution.
BUT heed this warning: if your pastor, minister or preacher thinks he IS God, then run....run as fast as you can. Find a church that has a servant leader who teaches Gods word not Mother Theresa's. Find a Bible believing church. A church that has as it's first and final authority the word of God. Not a church that uses the Bible plus something else as they same weight of the scriptures.
And if you find the PERFECT church DONT join....you will mess it up. We are ALL messy people who need authentic relationships with Jesus as the core to make it through the rest of the time here on this earth. Because the end of this verse says..."so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes".
Satan did not want me to post this (the first draft was deleted as I went to hit publish) and he definitely does NOT want healthy churches.

Benedict Arnold to Billy Graham in 7.0 weeks
Peter went up on the flat roof to pray. It was about noon, and he was hungry. But while a meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw the sky open, and something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners. In the sheet were all sorts of animals, reptiles, and birds. Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat them.” “No, Lord,” Peter declared. “I have never eaten anything that our Jewish laws have declared impure and unclean."But the voice spoke again: “Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.” The same vision was repeated three times. Then the sheet was suddenly pulled up to heaven. Peter was very perplexed. What could the vision mean?
As I continued to read down back toward vs 38
They arrived in Caesarea the following day. Cornelius was waiting for them and had called together his relatives and close friends. As Peter entered his home, Cornelius fell at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter pulled him up and said, “Stand up! I’m a human being just like you!” So they talked together and went inside, where many others were assembled. Peter told them, “You know it is against our laws for a Jewish man to enter a Gentile home like this or to associate with you. BUT GOD has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean".
So what were my Ah Ha moments:
Peter pulled Cornelius up as he fell at Peters feet and worshiped him...."stand up I am just a HUMAN just like you". Back in the day Peter would have been over Cornelius because as you see later in that verse Peter was a Jew and Cornelius was a Gentile. They did not associate. The Jews in their prideful behavior, were like the upper-class of today whose poop did not stink. And the Gentiles were considered a lower class citizen.
So why did Peter have the heart change? The vision....God clearly told Peter that "Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean". Then Peter goes on to say "BUT GOD has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean".
The verses then go on to say: I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation He accepts those who fear Him and do what is right.
Now why is this an Ah Ha moment because Peter denied Jesus 3 times right before Jesus was hung on a cross to die. Matthew 26
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same.
Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came over and said to him, “You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean.”But Peter denied it in front of everyone. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said. Later, out by the gate, another servant girl noticed him and said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. “I don’t even know the man,” he said. A little later some of the other bystanders came over to Peter and said, “You must be one of them; we can tell by your Galilean accent.” Peter swore, “A curse on me if I’m lying—I don’t know the man!” And immediately the rooster crowed.
Jesus has now died and resurrected and is walking among the people.
Jesus is here for 40 days. After the ascension they are talking about who should become the 12th disciple. And Peter (our Benedict Arnold) stands up among the believers Acts1During this time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them.
Then Acts 2
Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this.
And it continues and Peter becomes Billy Graham in about 7 weeks...preaching and preaching and preaching the Good News of Jesus.
If God will use Peter a man who denies Jesus 3 times while walking with Him as His disciple...that gives me so much hope that God could use an "impure, unclean (Greek translation common and unclean) and the other word for common: ORDINARY.... God takes the ordinary and allows them to do the extraordinary by His power of the Holy Spirit living in them.

The money pit
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” ~Luke 16
I know this passage is about being trustworthy with a few things but for today's blog I want to take the last part of this verse....
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
The issue becomes when we trust in money, fame, fortune OVER God. They become our idol, our addiction. When money, fame, fortune don't make us happy anymore we then add more medication to include drugs, alcohol, sex, a wild lifestyle etc. By this time satan has his claws so deep that you don't feel you could ever be worthy of Gods love that you continue down the slippery slope of destruction til death seems to be the logical solution~ death is NOT the answer. Relationships with the RIGHT people that will walk with you as they bring you closer to a right relationship with God. But remember they are NOT God, and they can't bring you up out of the pit you are in ONLY God can.
Psalms 40 talks about God bringing us up out of a pit; but what I want you to see is who called to who?
I waited patiently for the Lord;he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.
